Are you targeting
a tough challenge ride, a Cyclo-Sportive,
long Audax or a MTB enduro event?
Not sure how to optimise your preparation?
If you are,
enthusiastic and fairly fit, but you are unsure
how to apply yourself to specific training and
preparation for a major event or challenge ride then a cycling
coach could be exactly what you need
With the guidance of a
qualified coach you can be sure to reach your potential in the most
efficient way. If you are confident that the
training will yield results, motivation and
focus come much more easily. Working with a coach will give you
fitness and focus you never thought possible.
Racing Cyclists
What
is the correct formula? How do you find the
correct mix of volume and intensity
training?
Easy, hard or recovery? How long and
how many times have you wondered what you are suppossed to be doing on
a given day either before or after a race. It's hard to know what to
do for the best even if you have been riding for years.
Everyone is unique, copying another
cyclists programme might be either too much or too little of what you
need. You even need different training patterns for different types of
event.
You cannot be confident that you are
getting the mix right and when you start putting work and family into
the equation who knows what benefits your training is giving you.
It's not only competitive cyclists
who benefit from training plans. Enthusiastic racers can benefit. If
you are finding your motivation waning or self-discipline lacking.
Perspective is easy to lose, which is
why it is useful to talk things through with a personal coach who
knows you as a rider and someone who has been through similar
situations as you.
Triathletes
A
ride, run and a swim, where do you start training for this.
Specific training is needed for this sport. Over train in one
discipline will affect the other two.
Time
is precious when training for triathlons, so you don't want to spend
it on the wrong training regime. It is easy to go
wrong, over training is the classic triathletes mistake. Things go
well in training but on race day the times are not what was expected.
Race planning is
important, three events in one day takes its toll on the body, set
your goals, don't over train or over race. Allow time for recovery.
Planning is the fourth discipline.
Benefits of Coaching
Discover your Goals
Some riders
know their goals and only want help
achieving them. Others need help in identifying
specific and achievable goals over short, medium and the long term.
Tailored training plans
It is of no benefit
to get an "off the peg" training plan, you need one designed
specifically for you.
Staying Focused
Good training needs
to stay focused on the right things at the right time. A coach can
bring an objective view point, keeping you on course to achieve your
goals.
Motivation
The hardest part of
training is to stay motivated. Having someone else behind you helps
to keep you going. Also knowing there is someone to answer to if you
don't go out when it's cold is enough to keeo you going.
Confidence and self-belief
Having confidence in
what you are doing is the difference between success and failure. If
you believe you will succeed. A good coach will make you believe in
yourself.

VO2 Max
RampTest
The VO2max ramp test
is conducted either on a treadmill or cycle ergometer and is a test
to exhaustion. During the test you will start cycling or running at
a low intensity and as the test progresses the resistance on the
cycle ergometer or speed on the treadmill increase at short regular
intervals until you are unable to sustain your work rate.
We
do not use turbo trainers and get approximate results with these
tests. We use the laboratory at Canterbury Christchurch University.
From the test results
of
the VO2 max test we can identify the most appropriate
training intensity for you specifically.
The test results will
give
Height,
Mass, % Body Fat, % lean tissue from a 10 site skin fold test,
Haemoglobin and Haematocrit levels, peak values for aerobic and
anaerobic power, threshold levels to derive training threshold heart
rates, identification of any strengths and weakness.
